No longer taking donations
After a year of fundraising, we were unable to raise enough money to submit our application. We're leaving the page up for reference, and we cannot disable the 'donate' button.
All donations made after October 31, 2016 will be returned (it takes our processor 3-5 days to issue refunds).
One of the amazing features of the Kansas City Metro area is the sheer number of beautiful, well designed buildings - so many of which are sitting empty. This feature has inspired my family, and we found the Aladdin when we were looking for a commercial building that we could afford to restore.
We were able to arrange for a tour of the Aladdin Theater, located at 6044 E Truman Road in Kansas City (Missouri) in October of 2015, and were shocked to discover that, over the summer, a tree took out the roof on the East side of the building, collapsing the roof through the floor into the basement. The damage inside the building has not been cleaned up and no attempts at repair have been made by the current owner, leaving the building open to the weather. We were heartbroken to discover that the repairs needed significantly exceed the value of the property - but we haven't given up yet!
Rather than let the building continue to fall into disrepair, we're reaching out to the community for help. With your support, we can ensure this architectural gem will not be demolished like so many of Kansas City's historic buildings have been.
Our first funding goal is to cover the cost of our 501c application. 501c status will ensure that all donations to our organization are tax deductible, increasing our ability to reach high-dollar donors.
